ACADEMICS AT SHERBORNE
A report from Sherborne shows Turing was a bright student but struggled to see the value in subjects outside of math and science. Teachers complained, "His proses have been very weak. Most of the mistakes are elementary and the result of hasty work." and "His work is dirty."
"He must remember that Cambridge will want sound knowledge rather than vague ideas." |
"He didn't do very well. He didn't apply himself. He only applied himself to subjects that he was interested in, so subjects like Latin and English and history he wasn't particularly interested in." |
TURING'S FRIENDSHIP
|
"I feel sure that I shall meet Morcom again somewhere and that there will be some work for us to do together, as I believed there was for us to do." |
In 1928, Turing formed a close relationship with classmate Christopher Morcom. Morcom, believed to be Turing’s first love, shared his intellectual curiosity. However, Morcom died in 1930 of tuberculosis.
